Vancouver, Canada

January 23, 2011

Ever since I’ve moved up to the northwest I’ve been baffled by the city of Vancouver, Canada.  Seriously.  I meet people all the time who just came back from a visit to Vancouver.    Last night was no different.

While at a birthday party, I had a friend share that she just came back from Vancouver.  I said what I always say, “what’s the draw of Vancouver?”  And a group of people shared that it’s ethnically diverse, lot’s of farmer’s markets, it’s got a famous park that apparently “Boner” from Growing Pains was found dead in while the Olympics were going on.  Oh indeed, what’s not to like?

Last November I met this dude who said he loved Vancouver, keep in mind the guy lives here in Seattle, but I digress.  I asked him what’s the appeal and he said, “Here in Seattle we’ve got all these hipsters posing as heroine addicts, in Vancouver they’re legit.  They actually are heroine addicts.  It’s awesome.  They’re real. “  …Uh, huh.

So again, I’ve yet to understand the draw of this place.  I can get all of that here in Seattle, or if not here then Portland, and not have to make this an international affair where passports are involved and I suffer through word pronunciations like “aboat”.

Honestly, what in the heck is the appeal of Vancouver, Canada?
